12 Years A Slave – Black Hollywood Live’s 100% Reel

BHL: 100% Reel – In this episode Black Hollywood Live host Derrial Christon and co-hosts Chevonne Hughes, Courtney Stewart, and Tiona Hobson discuss 12 Years a Slave. Also joining the conversation is Doctor Theresa Rene White from Cal State University Northridge (Documentary Producer). In the years before the Civil War Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is kidnapped and sold into slavery in the South. Subjected to the cruelty of one malevolent owner (Michael Fassbender), he also found unexpected kindness from another, as he struggled continually to survive and maintain some of his dignity. Then in the 12th year of the disheartening ordeal, a chance meeting with an abolitionist from Canada changed Solomon’s life forever. They discuss everything from the origin, character breakdowns, the story lines, the audience reception, fact vs. fiction, etc.

  2. Pitt was in it because investors didn’t want to put money into the project without him being in it. Hollywood didn’t want to finance it.
